Japanese → English · Translation + Localization

Some problems are technical.
Some are linguistic.

For more than 30 years, translation has been an important part of our work. We help companies, institutions, researchers and public organizations turn complex Japanese source material into clear, precise English that communicates what its authors actually mean.

The tools have changed enormously. The standard we work toward has not.

Translation has changed

Our standard hasn’t.

AI and machine translation have made it possible to produce a rough translation almost instantly. But important communication still depends on context, judgment, cultural understanding, and responsibility for the finished result.

Words carry more than dictionary meaning. They carry intent, emphasis, assumptions, and the background against which a message was written. Our job is to understand those things first—and then write English that conveys them accurately, naturally and effectively.

How we work

Understand first.
Then write.

01

Get close to the subject.

For difficult technical projects, understanding the product or service comes first. That can mean visiting a customer’s facility, operating the equipment, meeting engineers, or taking product training before we translate a word.

02

Write English, not translated Japanese.

We edit and rewrite until the result works as a coherent piece of English. When a natural translation requires moving away from the structure of the source, we work with the customer on wording, tone and style rather than quietly changing the message.

03

Work directly with the translator.

Customers can communicate freely and directly with the person doing the work. Questions are answered quickly, preferences become part of the project, and the relationship can function much like having a dedicated translator on your own team.

04

Take responsibility for the result.

Strong quality control and information security are the starting point. Native-English translation, careful editing, competitive pricing and responsive follow-up after delivery are all part of the same promise: a finished product we are prepared to stand behind.

Experience + Expertise

More than 30 years.
More than 100,000 pages.

That experience spans highly technical documents and culturally sensitive writing alike. The subject changes; our approach does not: research carefully, understand the context, communicate directly, and write with precision.

Industrial + Technical

Extensive work for major manufacturers in electrical measurement, machine tools, industrial robotics, automotive, HVAC and electronics, including confidential internal engineering documents, specifications, manuals and UI content. For demanding projects, we visit facilities, meet engineers and learn the product firsthand.

Tourism publications for municipalities and prefectures; museum exhibits and catalogues; UNESCO-related materials; NHK scripts; restaurant menus; cultural and historical interpretation; festivals and cultural properties; Buddhist art and architecture; shrines and temples. The work demands research, cultural judgment and English that welcomes rather than merely translates.

One message.
Whatever form it needs to take.

We also provide subtitle creation, English narration recording and editing, website and software localization, copywriting, editing, proofreading and consulting. The goal is not to sell a fixed package of language services, but to understand what you need to communicate and find the most useful way to communicate it.

Let us help you tell it.

Your story deserves
to arrive intact.

If you have a document, product, publication or message that needs to work in English, tell us what you are trying to accomplish. We’ll be happy to discuss the material, schedule, workflow and pricing with you directly.
